Steps in the process of establishing the Mediterranean Office for Youth

Paris, 14 December 2009 : Ministerial seminar on the theme “Mediterranean Migration: A Space for Shared Prosperity"

At the invitation of Eric Besson, France’s minister for immigration, integration, national identity, and shared development, a ministerial seminar on the theme “Mediterranean Migration: A Space for Shared Prosperity” was held in Paris on 14 December 2009.
Participants representing Egypt, Sweden (which occupied the presidency of the European Union), Cyprus, Croatia, France, Greece, Malta, Morocco, Montenegro, and Spain emphasized the contribution of migration to the creation of wealth, the development of intercultural exchange, and the promotion of mutual understanding in the Mediterranean region.
Reaffirming their determination to build a common Mediterranean future, the participants agreed on the need to give priority to youth in the building of a Mediterranean space marked by the free circulation of people, knowledge, and skills.


Tangier, 29–30 April 2010 :
First conference of experts on the establishment of the Mediterranean Office for Youth

This conference allowed the participants to define MOY's role and prerogatives during the experimentation period of 3 years (from 2012 to 2013) and to set a first timetable.

Budva, 28–29 June 2010 :
Second conference of experts on the establishment of the Mediterranean Office for Youth


The second conference of experts defined subject areas of broad Mediterranean interest, guidelines for grants, the terms of a call for proposals to be circulated to institutions of higher education, and the structure of the future office.

Limassol, October 2010 :
Third conference of experts on the establishment of the Mediterranean Office for Youth


The purpose of this conference is to identify measures to facilitate the entry, temporary residence, and temporary professional employment of internationally mobile students, and to discuss support services to be provided to mobile students.
